International Womens Day March, Vancouver 2025
“We have the human right to protest here and with so many injustices worldwide, isn’t it our duty to do what others aren’t able to do - what others have been imprisoned for?”
- IWD Vancouver Chair”
International Women’s Day march in Vancouver BC, Saturday 8th March 2025.
Well this was an absolutely wonderful washout.
There were hundreds of women, and many allies, braving the cold and wet conditions at šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl'e7énḵ Square (Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza) in Downtown Vancouver.
2025’s news brings so much evidence of inequality and unfairness, and I have to say it’s been grinding me down more than it ever has before. This day was antidotal.
There were many inspiring speakers, touching our hearts with powerful first-hand stories, having us screaming at the sky in pure expression, and encouraging us to spread the messages far and wide.
“International Women's Day March Vancouver works to celebrate, amplify, and fight alongside the diversity of women in our community to achieve equity and create awareness of issues self-identifying women in Vancouver face.” (link)
My toes were frozen by the end of the day, but I’m grateful to have attended alongside my pals (Housemate Chris, Russell, and Dr. Chris). Fingers crossed we’ll have more equality to celebrate in 2026.
