An Evening Above the City

Dog Mountain > Suicide Bluffs Loop

Sometimes the best way to reset is to lace up the Vivo Barefoots and get a little lost in the trees.

Last night I hiked the Dog Mountain to Suicide Bluffs loop just in time to catch golden hour breaking over the forest. There’s something timeless about these alpine woods - the quiet reflection in still water, the twisted roots, the slow bloom of wildflowers under the firs. Everything feels like it’s been here far longer than us, and will remain long after.

I brought along my Fujifilm X100VI, which is certainly my favourite companion for these excursions. Compact, responsive, and full of character - it captures these spaces with the kind of texture and depth that makes me fall in love with photography all over again.

While this was more of a personal reset than a portrait session, I couldn’t help but imagine how beautiful it would be to shoot up here. Soft light filtering through the canopy, moss-covered ground underfoot, distant ridgelines fading into dusk… if you’re ever up for a forest portrait adventure, let’s make it happen.

Also, if you’ve never listened to Spinning Away by Brian Eno — do yourself a favour. It’s been the soundtrack to a good chunk of my life, and it felt just right in these moments.

Until next time.
