Hello, I’m Tom
I’m Tom, a Vancouver-based photographer originally from the UK.
I’ve been taking photographs since 2010, and over the years my work has taken me in a few different directions. I’ve exhibited in Sydney and Vancouver, had photographs published and used on billboards across Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and photographed everything from portraits and events to commercial campaigns and the everyday moments I’m naturally drawn to.
Alongside photography, I spent more than a decade working in film and television, supporting directors, producers and creative teams on large-scale productions. The two worlds often overlapped, and film taught me a huge amount about storytelling, light, preparation and how to work calmly with a lot of moving parts.
For a few years I also taught yoga in Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Vancouver. It might seem unrelated, but I think it shaped my photography too. It taught me to slow down, pay attention, read a room and help people feel comfortable.
That’s still a big part of how I work now. I like shoots to feel relaxed and collaborative, with enough direction to make things easy, but enough space for something real to happen.

Away from the camera...
When I’m not shooting, I’m usually outside somewhere. Hiking, cycling, camping, wandering around Vancouver with a camera, or planning the next trip back to the UK.
I’m drawn to good food, interesting people, mountains, the ocean, old cameras, new cameras, and probably too many creative side projects.
Photography has always been a way for me to pay closer attention to things. The places people gather, the way someone changes when they forget there's a camera around, or the few minutes of ridiculous light you get at the end of the day.
That curiosity is still a big part of why I do this.
I’ve spent a lot of time on film sets
For more than a decade I worked across film, television and advertising, supporting directors and producers on large-scale productions.
Being on set taught me how much goes into making something feel effortless: preparation, communication, light, timing, problem-solving and a good crew.
I bring that same production experience to my photography today, whether I’m working quietly with one person or alongside an agency and a full creative team.
Previous productions and clients include Disney, Apple TV+, FX and major international advertising campaigns.
What it’s like to work together
Relaxed
I don’t expect you to know what to do in front of a camera. I’ll give you enough direction to feel comfortable without making everything feel overly posed.
Collaborative
Bring references, strange ideas or half-formed thoughts. The best shoots usually get better once everyone starts contributing.
Prepared
Years working on film sets taught me to arrive ready, communicate clearly and keep things moving when plans inevitably change.
